B.Architecture (Hons.Qld) B.Des.Studies (Qld) Registered Architect (Qld) no.1490 B.D.A.Q.

As principal architect & design director at Michael Witty Architects all design & design interpretation of buildings created by the practice is his responsibility.

The success of the design practice is a direct result of the hands on building experience overlayed with a deep seated interest in studying & experiencing design solutions thru history & the ongoing learning inherent in the experience of using & studying contemporary designs.

Born 1952 in Brisbane Australia educated in the GPS system (St.Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace) MW completed architecture at the University of Qld in the early seventies.

MW worked in several established Brisbane architectural practices gaining experience in residential design, units, club, hotel & resort accommodation.

Various travel overseas during the early 70’s gave the impetus & experience of good design to established Michael Witty Architects.

Real building experience was gained in the mid 70‘s by personally building & finishing an own design 8 level ‘bespoke’ timber framed residence on a heavily treed steep sloping block.

During the 80’s MW gained registration as both a general builder & a commercial builder enabling the practice to grow in experience as a design & construct practice.

Further hands on building experience was gained in the early 80‘s by personally building an own design ‘bespoke’ contemporary 2 storey concrete slab on ground, glass roofed, steel framed, stone faced waterfront residence.

Projects undertaken in the 80’s were large residences, units, townhouses, boutique office buildings, commercial developments, resort & tourism entertainment projects.
Notable designs during the 80’s were THE OCEAN ISLES on the oceanfront at Main Beach on the Gold Coast & the HILL Residence at Paradise Waters.

Various travel overseas during this period to study waterfront development & develop business experience in Asia was to Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.

In the mid 90’s the partnership Robertson Witty Architects was formed to provide a fully computerized integrated architecture & interior design practice developing & providing expertise in up-market waterfront residential development (single luxury residences, townhouses & golf course condominiums) completing many noteworthy residences plus designing & project managing the unit complex VILLA CASABLANCA at Hope Island.

Offshore experience during the 90’s entailed undertaking various projects (residences in Singapore, penthouse unit fit-out & alterations in Hong Kong, Taipei & Shanghai culminating in the design of the clubhouse for the Beijing Links Golf Course, Beijing).

Travel during the 90’s has been to China, Singapore, Hong Kong & Japan to study & experience Asian design trends & the impact of growth of sustainable design practice on design outcomes in the Asian region.

In the first decade of the new millennium MICHAEL WITTY ARCHITECTS has consolidated its position as the principal residential design practice in S.E.Qld concentrating on bespoke one off waterfront residences, top of the range condominium & townhouse projects.

MWA has developed significant expertise in the realistic application of sustainable building & state of the art design practice to ‘bespoke’ waterfront residential projects.

MWA is currently developing designs for feasibility analysis of subterranean building to secure significant savings in environmental impact while maximizing ground level land use.

The future in design is exciting & the possibilities are only limited by the imagination & the willingness to push the boundaries.

Quality & excellence in design always translate to growth in wealth.

All architecture is contemporary in its day.

Art in architecture is integral to good design.

MWA is now developing an expertise in the design & provision of REMOTE AREA INDIGENOUS HOUSING in line with the recommendations put forward in the study - “Remote Indigenous housing procurement” AHURI (April 2011)
